What make you of these rumors, Oppo?

Kinja'd!!!

Apparently, Lincoln is prepping the next-gen MKS for 2017, which might run on an elongated version of the Fusion platform. The project is known internally as "Continental".

Normally, I'd sulk at the FWD, but if it looks as nice for Lincoln as the Fusion did for Ford, I think I'm OK with it, not to mention the fact that the 2017 MKS is said to have "RWD dash-to-axle proportions", cheating as that may be. What are your thoughts, Oppo?

That's probably just an artist's rendering (obviously).

I'm sure they're working on some kind of new model/refresh, but doubt it would look like that. To me, if it's a FWD-biased AWD system, I'd at least look at it.

Never driven a Town Car, but will ride in one when the client is paying. As long as the back seat is comfy and the leather smells good, I'm in.

A couple months ago I had to Uber because of where I was - Chrysler 300C surprisingly comfortable as what we call a black car. But still, I love a Toyota Highlander black car/taxi. What a nice ride.

That's actually the 2007 MKR concept.

Fo' sho'. Seems to me now or soon would be an ideal time to build it with some simultaneously toned-down but updated design and slot it in with the MKZ.

What makes sense to us doesn't necessarily equate to what makes sense to them (unfortunately). If it did, we would have some super cool Lincolns and Cadillacs.

Oh, I know, but we already have some super cool Cadillacs. It's just kinda sad that Lincoln is where Cadillac was 15 years ago.

I'm a fan of Lincoln. My partner and I have a '78 Continental Town Coupe. My partner DD'd a 1997 Town Car over 50,000 miles in two years. I actually test-drove an '88 Town Car yesterday as a possible winter car. We both really like the current MKZ and MKC.

I can't say I'm convinced that calling the new MKS "Continental" will be that beneficial of a change. The thing about pulling out historic names is that the car to which they're newly applied has to be worthy of the name. How many people bitched and whined when the Impala was revived in the late 1990s as a front-drive W-Body with a 3800 V6? Limpala, they called it. That's just one example.

The next MKS will not likely be worthy of the Continental name. I genuinely hope that the next MKS is a stunner. I really do. The current one looks sedate, yet terrible. There's little about it that convinces me it's worth even a test-drive. It has the same bits as the Taurus, including that 3.5 Ecoboost. Lincoln is starting to show that they are capable of making desirable cars, with the MKZ being a great example of that. I hate the current nomenclature at Lincoln. But all that said, I don't think the 3rd-gen MKS will be worthy of the Continental name, no matter how nice it is. There's just too much recent garbage from Lincoln, whether it be the 2nd-gen MKZ, either generation of MKX (which both look like the only change was the grille), or the first two generations of MKS that both felt like and looked like ungainly-looking grille swaps.

I think Lincoln needs the bulk of its lineup to be absolutely gorgeous before they go into the name vault and start pulling out Continental and Zephyr and Cosmopolitan and Mark. Otherwise, it'll feel like they're just pulling out old names and putting them on mediocre product, and that will hurt Lincoln more than the great old names can help.

I would trade in the Dodge and the Mustang for something that looks like this with a 5.0 Coyote.
